What You Need to Know About Diversity Visa Lottery 2016?

Diversity Visa Lottery 2016The U.S. Department of State has announced that the window to sign up for the Diversity Visa lottery program 2016 (DV – 2016) will open on October 1st, 2014. If you are someone whose dream is to get a green card through this lottery program, you will need to file your entry between October 1, 2014 at 12:00 noon EST and November 3, 2014 at 12:00 noon EST. Remember that you can only submit an online application to take part in this program and no paper forms are available.

You can file an application to take part in this program if you meet certain requirements. Check out the following. If your answers to the following are yes, you can take part in DV-2016.

  • Are you a citizen of a country that is on the list of green card lottery eligible countries? (Find the list of countries here)
  • Do you have high school education (have you completed a 12 year course of elementary or secondary education) or have two years of work experience in a qualifying occupation (Find the list of DV lottery qualifying occupations here)?

If your answers to the above questions are yes, congrats! You can go ahead and file your application to take part in DV-2016.

If your answer to the first question is no, you can still apply for DV lottery if your answer to one of the following questions is yes.

  • Was your husband or wife born in a qualifying country? If yes, you can claim his or her country of birth as your country of eligibility and take part in this year’s green card lottery program.
  • Were your father or mother or both born in a country eligible for DV-2016? If yes, you can claim the country of birth of your father or mother as your country of eligibility and file your entry.

If you do not belong to an eligible country and/or if you do not meet the education and employment requirements, you cannot apply for DV 2016.
