Ways to Curtail Illegal Immigration

Illegal immigration, has always been a major issue in the United States and though the country has taken various steps to put an end to illegal immigration, many immigrate to the United States, illegally. However, the country can get rid of illegal immigration, if the US immigration process is made easier. There are millions of undocumented immigrants in the United States and for most of them, United States is their home.

Recently, President Obama, implemented the deferred action process, that would halt the deportation of few undocumented immigrants. Though some undocumented immigrants are filing applications to receive deferred action, many still do not want to file their deferred action applications, as they believe that the details that they provide will be used to deport them from the United States.

Many foreign nationals enter into the country illegally, as they do not want to wait for years, to obtain visas. As the visas that are made available every year are not enough, people look for other ways to get into the country and finally they enter into the United States illegally and remain there as undocumented immigrants. In order to prevent people from immigrating illegally, more visas must be made available and the visa wait times must be reduced.

Some people get into the United States legally and become undocumented immigrants by overstaying their temporary visas. That is because they need to go through a long process, in order to extend or renew their visas. If the American states take steps to establish resource centers and if the resource centers help them to file applications to extend their visas, the number of people who become undocumented immigrants by overstaying their visas, will be reduced.

Similarly, Green Card holders in the United States, are unable to become US citizens, though they meet all the eligibility requirements for US citizenship, due to lack of awareness and motivation. Such potential citizens, who are unaware of US citizenship, will be able to obtain US citizenship, if the American states establish citizenship and immigration resource centers and provide the required information.
