Presidents’ Day, that is observed every year on the third Monday in February and which falls on 16 February this year, honors all the presidents who have led the U.S. Most federal offices, schools, banks and post offices will be closed on this day.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will honor this day by conducting special Presidents Day naturalization ceremonies in the U.S. between February 13 and 22, 2015. 5000 immigrants will receive their naturalization certificates this Presidents’ Day. You can celebrate this day by attending one of these naturalization ceremonies.
You can also celebrate this day by visiting one of the 405 national parks under the National Park System, including Grand Canyon, Yosemite National Park or the Yellowstone National Park. All these national parks offer free admission to visitors between February 14 and 16, 2015. This includes national parks in Hawaii and Maui. Many parks have organized special events to commemorate this day. Before visiting the parks, you can check the calendar of events and visit the park that has organized your favorite event.
Most of our presidents have lived in national parks and this Presidents’ day weekend is the best time to visit one of those parks. These parks have direct connections to U.S. presidents and most of these parks were homes or birthplaces of American presidents or monuments or historic sites. The White House is a national park that has been the home and office of almost every American president since John Adams, except George Washington.
Cesar E. Chavez National Monument and Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad National Monument are two of the five national parks created by President Obama. Grand Canyon and Yellowstone are two national parks President Obama has visited with his family.
This day also brings a lot of deals and offers. It is one of the best days for shopping as a many retailers have launched their Presidents’ Day deals. Don’t miss out the great deals offered by Kohl’s, Sears, JCPenney, Macy’s, Verizon Wireless, Apple Store, Amazon and Walmart.
Have a great Presidents’ Day!
