If your parents are US citizens, you are a US citizen and you can get a US citizenship certificate by filing the USCIS Form N-600. As you were born on US soil, you can use the birth certificate that was issued to you by the American state where you were born, to prove your status and that birth certificate alone is sufficient to prove that you are a US citizen. Similarly, if your parents are US citizens and if your birth took place in a foreign country, you can acquire US citizenship and become a US citizen. Moreover, people born in America are US citizens even if their parents are immigrants. Children of such immigrants who were born on US soil, will be granted birth certificates and they may use those certificates to prove their citizenship status.
However, in certain circumstances, you may be required to submit a document that contains your photo in order to prove that you are a US citizen. In such cases, as your parents are US citizens and you hold a US birth certificate, you may file Form N-600 to obtain a US citizenship certificate and this certificate of citizenship is a document that is issued by the government of the United States to the citizens of the country as proof of US citizenship. People who obtained US citizenship by the action of law or by having been born to US citizen parents outside America, also can apply for US citizenship certificates. To apply for a certificate of citizenship, you will have to file Form N-600 and as you were born within the United Sates, you must submit a copy of your birth certificate along with Form N-600.
In this case, the names of your father and your mother must be printed on your birth certificate. If you father was a US citizen at the time of your birth, the name of your father must be printed on your birth certificate and you must be currently living legally with your father. Likewise, at the time of your birth, if your mother was a US citizen, your mother’s name must be printed on your birth certificate and you must prove that you are legally living with your mother. You can also apply for a US citizenship certificate, if your parents had obtained US citizenship through the legal process, naturalization, before you turned 18.
If you meet all prerequisites, you may file Form N-600 and obtain a US citizenship certificate. Apart from that, people who acquire citizenship from their parents after their birth, also can apply for US citizenship certificates. After you file Form N-600, you may be required to appear for an interview, if an interview is necessary and not all the applicants will be called for interviews. In case you are required to appear for an interview, you will have to take with you to the interview, few supporting documents to prove that you are eligible for a certificate of citizenship. If you are below age 18 at the time of applying for a citizenship certificate, you will have to report for the interview with your parents. If you are not a minor, your parents may not be required accompany you for the interview.
