How Long Are The Work Permits Issued to Asylees Valid?
Two years!
In most cases, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) issues Employment Authorization Documents (EAD), also known as work permits, that are valid for a year. Earlier, asylum applicants were also issued EADs valid for a year. USCIS has now announced that it will grant asylees work permits valid for two years.
This applies to all those who filed Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization on or after October 5, 2016. Asylees who file for work permits or for renewal of old work permits in future will also receive work permits valid for two years. This rule came into effect on October 5, 2016.
