When is the right time to travel to the U.S. after getting an immigrant visa?
As soon as you get your visa!
Immigrant visas are valid for no longer than six months. You can find the date on which your visa will expire, on your visa. Remember that, if your medical examination is valid for less than six months, your visa will also be valid for less than six months. So, it is wise to travel to the U.S. as soon as you get your visa. Make all necessary arrangements in advance and be ready to travel to the U.S. soon after you get your visa. Because, circumstances may change.
What if changes are made to the U.S. immigration laws? This might adversely affect the validity of your immigrant visa. Likewise, if you were sponsored by your relative and in the worst-case scenario, if your relative dies before you go to the U.S., your immigrant visa will be considered invalid. In certain cases, your visa may be re-validated. But this may not happen soon and might take months.
If things go wrong before you leave for the U.S., all your efforts will go to waste. So don’t delay. Start to the U.S. as soon as you get your visa. Once you come here, you can get your green card. After that, you can travel back to your home country as a green card holder if you have a re-entry permit.
