Green Card Lottery 2014 and Deferred Action

Deferred action policy, implemented by President Obama is considered to be a relief to many undocumented immigrants in the United States, though the relief is not permanent. This process will temporarily shelve the deportation of many young and innocent undocumented immigrants. Moreover, recipients of deferred action may not be removed from the country for two years and to qualify for deferred action, the applicant must be in school or must be a high school graduate below age 31 or above age 15. The applicant must also prove that he was brought to the country when he was a child below age 15.

Undocumented immigrants who receive deferred action may remain in the country lawfully but that does not mean that they would be granted lawful status in the United States. Hence, the undocumented immigrants who are eligible for deferred action are looking forward to enter the Green Card lottery 2014 program conducted by the US Department of State. They do not know whether they are eligible to enter the lottery program as undocumented immigrants are ineligible to enter the DV lottery program, according to the present US immigration laws.

This lottery program is conducted every year by the US congress and through that 50,000 immigrant visas are granted to eligible foreign nationals who are citizens of Green Card lottery eligible countries. Now, eligible individuals may submit their entries to take part in the lottery program and they just need to submit online applications and need not pay any filing fees to enter the lottery program. Under the current law, individuals from Green Card lottery eligible countries and individuals in the United States on some non-immigrant status, alone may take part in the Green Card lottery 2014 program.

Undocumented immigrants in the country may not take part, as people who had got into the country illegally are ineligible to participate in the lottery program. Though you are eligible for deferred action and though you receive deferred action, you may not become eligible for a Green Card through the DV lottery program. Even if you win, later you may be disqualified as you are an undocumented immigrant. But you may not be deported from the country, if you are a deferred action recipient.
